"Bye, Bye, Bennu" - Jeffrey Miller
Thursday, December 02, 2021 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

The OSIRIS-REx mission of NASA’s New Frontiers program traveled to the nearby asteroid 101955 Bennu. On October 20, 2020, the spacecraft successfully “pogo-sticked” off the surface of Bennu and collected a sample of asteroid material to be returned to Earth in 2023. We’ll see some astounding videos of Bennu and the actual sample collection, talk about the discoveries already made about Bennu and what we hope to learn about our solar system’s history after detailed analysis of that sample on Earth.

Jeffrey Miller is an astronomer at St. Lawrence University, and has been teaching physics and astronomy there for over 30 years. He is also a member of the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory's board of directors.
