Question #24 – Who was the first human in space?

Answer:

58 years ago in April 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to travel into space. Yuri orbited the Earth aboard the space craft Vostok 1. He flew around the earth in 89 minutes.

23 days later, on May 5, 1961, Alan Shepard became the first American in space. The first American to orbit the Earth was John Glenn. He flew on the Friendship 7 on February 20, 1962. His flight, which orbited the Earth three times, took 4 hours and 56 minutes.
