News Archives 2016

  • November 1, 2016: Last June, the APO received a $70,000 grant from the New York State DEC and the Town of Tupper Lake. This has made it possible for us to hire Envision Architects, Albany to help design the next two buildings: a domed building which will house a research telescope and a 12,000 square foot Astro-Science Center museum. This last building will include a classroom, exhibit hall, archival museum, lecture hall, and planetarium. Envision has provided us with sketches and a video fly-by of their proposed design. The proposed designs are a work in progress; check back for updates!

  • May 17, 2016: APO member Ernie Rossi sent along this photo of Saturn, taken May 10, 2016 in Leesburg, Florida. Thanks, Ernie!

  • April 16, 2016: APO trustees Carol Levy and Seth McGowan attended the Northeast Astronomy Forum at Rockland Community College on April 9th & 10th. They had a booth with information about our organization and met with many people interested in our project.
  • January 21, 2016: The Adirondack Daily Enterprise published an article called "APO Connects Humans to Space" about the increasing popularity of the observatory as a tourist destination, and how this benefits the Tupper Lake Region.
