It is with deep sadness that the Adirondack Sky Center announces the passing of Wallace "Wallie" Everest Jr. He was an aeronautical engineer for General Electric for 28 years, as well as an avid sailor. He was also very interested in preserving the legacy of his father, A.W. (Wally) Everest, a famous amateur telescope maker.
Wallie was a member of the observatory's Board of Directors since 2006. In that year, he and his family presented us with one of his father's telescopes, the Everest Old Town Pump, for restoration and use as a working telescope for public observing. This telescope is still used during most observing events throughout the year.
Wallie was a great friend of the observatory and will be dearly missed. A full obituary and memories page can be found on the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home website, in Marblehead, MA.
